Recharge your strategy from your sun lounger (or swivel chair)

The benefits of taking time away from the business with family or friends is well documented; no commute, no meetings, no emails, and no deadlines. You have time and lots of it to do the things you want to do, and yet work is never too far away and often invades your thoughts in the quieter moments between the kids in the pool, the holiday novel, or getting ready to go out for dinner.

It’s much the same for those left behind in the office, particularly during the school summer holidays when there may not be a full exec complement in the business for up to 6-8 weeks, which results in a real holiday feel about the place: shorter commute, fewer meetings, fewer emails, fewer interruptions and generally fewer external demands.

So whether you’re on your sun lounger or your swivel chair take the opportunity to recharge your batteries, recharge your relationships and recharge your strategy.

  • Batteries – The demands are less and the pace slower so the loungers can get up later and the swivels can arrive and leave on time.
  • Relationships – There’s less pressure on people which makes conversations more relaxed which in turn is more rewarding for both loungers and swivels.
  • Strategy – Often the simplest of strategies can get complicated and blurred – yet away from the normal routine it can become easier to see from your lounger or swivel.
